Tamsui, located at estuary of Tamsui River at northern Taiwan, has played a major role in the commerce between eastern and western countries since the 17th century due to its geographic importance. Passing through multi-colonialism, the development of Tamsui becomes a matrix of eastern and western cultures. The colonial history, cultural heritages and ecological environment have further made Tamsui become an attractive city. The Taipei County Government establishes the Tamsui Historic Sites to manage the operation of the historic sites, including Fort San Domingo, Tamsui Customs Officer’s Residence, Huwei Fort, etc. There are more than 20 sites in all. The mission of the Tamsui Historical Sites is to promote Tamsui's rich cultural assets and heritages, historic sites, and the history of Tamsui.
