網路上有一則關於這首《Shanghai Memories Of 1945》歌曲故事. 1945年，一位美國富家小姐愛上了上海碼頭旁裁縫鋪老闆的兒子，終究是一段無疾而終的愛情故事，因為身分地位過於懸殊。後來富家小姐被迫返回美國嫁給電影導演，當了作家，沒多少光景便離婚收場，之後再嫁出版社商人，又複製了一場離婚，至此孤老終生。1983年，她的女兒帶著去世母親的日記和照片前去中國尋找母親的初戀情人。三個月後，在毫無音訊的情況下離去。數年後，一位從臺灣到大陸探親的先生聽聞該故事後，透過報社寫信告知那位富家小姐的女兒，前些日子在整理父親的遺物時見過這位小姐的照片，他猜測父親就是當時富商小姐的初戀情人。
