這是在１９７９年的發行的一首歌，
也是衝擊合唱團的名作之一
衝擊合唱團成立於英國倫敦
是７０年代到８０年代初期很知名的一樂團


會有這首歌詞中隱含著美國三哩島事件
還有英國逐漸高漲的失業率、種族衝突以及英國毒品的濫用
這些在當時的社會現象。
Joe Strummer 說：＂我們感受到我們正掙扎著滑下一個坡道或這某種事物，緊握我們的手指，沒有人會來救我們！
表示他對社會上的關心與觀察。


歌詞中＂London is drowning / And I live by the river＂
那條指的是英國的泰晤士河
假如這條河氾濫，倫敦市中心都會淪陷


歌詞中＂We ain't got no swing / Except for the ring of that truncheon thing＂
表示著政治上的殘酷
＂we ain't got no high / except for that one with the yellowy eyes＂
表示著，沒有毒癮，我們根本不可能開心起來！

樂團沒有經紀人的高負債情況下，也不知道該發行專輯好還是單曲就好
＂now don't look to us / phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust＂
表示對於在１９７７年後龐克不再大放異彩，樂團已無法承擔局勢


在音樂上，和弦與編排方式也跟以前大不相同
整首歌都是用小調，他們以前很少用這種方式譜曲
像是世界末日一樣的風格，
是因為 Topper Headon用了鼓做加強但卻沒有backbeat
在斷奏的吉他副歌上。
