這首歌的歌詞有些晦澀，表面看來是兒子要脫離母親自立了，希望能獲得母親的諒解，但我覺得它其實隱喻著這孩子做了一些壞事，正要付出代價，但還是希望他的母親不要再為他擔心。可以想像一個浪子到了最後用很輕柔的聲音向母親緩緩的唱著這首歌，可能是歌手想要帶給觀眾的感覺吧?

[補充] 蛇在西方有著誘惑的意味，典故來自伊甸園裡的蛇誘惑夏娃吃下禁果，所以"殺了河床上最後那條蛇" 可以想成是男孩說自己長大了，可以克服外在的誘惑。
